House Passes HEROES Act  

Additional emergency relief for housing and community development programs is included in legislation that House passed on May 15, but the bill faces significant obstacles in the Senate.   The HEROES Act (H.R. 6800) includes nearly $24 billion in emergency supplemental funding for rental assistance and community development programs and an additional $100 billion in short-term rental assistance for those currently unassisted. The housing components of the legislation focus on immediate needs directly related to the COVID-19 crisis, building on the resources previously made available through the CARES Act that was signed into law by the President on March 27.
